If police forcibly enters a tenanted property for searching in connection with an investigation involving the tenant. In the process, the property is damaged. Does anyone know who will be responsible for the cost of the repair?

I had this happen to me and could not get any help trying for compensation
from the police.
However, after the incident I wrote a letter of complaint together with all
the keyholder details and contact telephone numbers together with a written
warning that I would sue if they ever entered by force without firts trying to obtain
entry by key.
We have had only one incident since and they telephoned asking for us to attend,
we did and let them into the building where they kindley thanks us and bid us good
day.
by the way no response came of my letter, but it looks like someone took note.
