Subject: hot water tank installed by a non-certified installer

Basically, I recently had a new hot water tank installed. It is not gas (there is not gas in the flat) and I just got a plumber to install it. I have since found out it was installed wrong and that since it is unvented it needs to be installed by a certified plumber.

Do I take the uncertified installer to court? Do I get the problem remedied before then?

The council are not much help at all. They say that since they were not advised that a new hot water tank was being installed, and they were not involved in any of the process so far, they are not going to help me resolve this situation now that it's all gone pear shaped.

Not a gas matter therefore you don't need a 'Gas Safe' [was 'Corgi'] fitter.
Take the original fitter to court by all means but first make sure that he has means and assets of his own [not his wife's or business equipment/van] to cover your claim and costs. I've had experience in county court claims and have found, in general, that you cannot get blood out of a stone so ascertaining the means to pay are essential not to waste money on fees.
Might be easier to have a new fitter estimate the costs of alteration and then negotiate
