Are 1.5 million landlords happy to pay an unfair tax?

There are over 1.5 million landlords in the UK. Every landlord has been subject to an unfair tax system since 2017. No other business in the UK is forced to pay tax the way landlords do.

So when a petition to ‘Reinstate tax relief allowing mortgage interest to be set against rental income’ becomes available you would assume that every landlord would immediately register and sign it to force the Government to reconsider.

However, so far only 17,000 people have signed the petition meaning that at least 1.5 million landlords either don’t know about the petition, can’t be bothered to sign it or are happy to pay the excess tax the Government has imposed on all landlords.

Why aren’t the landlord associations reminding their members about this petition again and again? Do the associations think landlords should pay excess tax that no other UK business pays?

Why isn’t every landlord telling every other landlord they know about this petition? Are you happy to pay this unique tax?

If you’re happy to pay a tax no other business in the UK pays then do nothing. If you would rather not pay this tax then sign the petition and ask every other landlord you know to do the same. The choice is yours. Once the petition gets to 100,000 the subject will be considered for debate, until then every landlord will continue to pay a tax that no other UK business has to pay.
