The political party propping up the Scottish Government says higher taxes on buy to lets will help the housing market be ‘more equal’.
The Green Party – which backs the Scottish National Party to give it a parliamentary majority – says a recent increase in a tax known as Additional Dwelling Supplement will “address the hoarding of properties by big landlords” and “reduce the damage caused by holiday homes”.
The ADS – roughly the same as the Stamp Duty surcharge in England – was recently raised from four to six per cent of purchase cost.
