NRLA Congratulates Labour on Victory, Looks Forward to Working With Them

In the wake of Labour’s sweeping victory in the 2024 general election, the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) has extended its congratulations to the new government.

In a formal statement, the NRLA expressed its intent to actively engage with the unfolding policy changes that will emerge under Labour’s administration. The association underscored its commitment to representing landlords’ interests amid anticipated sector reforms.

Ben Beadle, Chief Executive of the NRLA, lauded Labour’s ascent to power, noting the significant pledges made in the party’s manifesto concerning the private rental sector.

“We congratulate Labour on its election to office,” Beadle stated. “The party’s manifesto committed to fundamental reforms to the private rented sector. This includes ending section 21, ‘no explanation’ repossessions.”

Beadle emphasized the NRLA’s readiness to collaborate with the new government, aiming for reforms that balance the interests of tenants and landlords while ensuring long-term sustainability.

“It is vital, however, that reform does not make worse an already chronic shortage of rental properties to meet demand,” he cautioned, highlighting concerns about the potential impact of policy changes on housing availability.

As Labour prepares to implement its housing agenda, the NRLA remains poised to advocate for pragmatic and balanced solutions in the rental market.
