Letting agencies warned of legislation to end use of ‘no DSS’ ads

Commons committee compares use of such ads to a “hostile environment” for tenants on benefits.

A Commons committee has called on landlords to end “no DSS” clauses in rental ads – comparing them to the notorious “no blacks, no Irish, no dogs” notices of the past.

If they don’t, Work and Pensions committee chairman Frank Field MP warned of new legislation to stop it.

“If we are serious about this we have to get lenders and insurers to stop the discrimination,” Field said.
