Private renters should be able to keep a pet, ministers tell landlords in overhaul of default tenancy contract

Renters in private accommodation should be able to have a pet, the Government has said as it unveiled an overhaul of the default tenancy agreement.

The new model contract recommended as the basis for landlords to use with tenants states that renters should be allowed to keep a pet animal in their home unless there is a good reason to refuse it.
