Activists associated with the Generation Rent group have announced their plans to conduct what they are dubbing “Renters’ Rights Awareness Week” in the latter half of October.
The group, known for its advocacy on behalf of renters, claims to offer valuable information to tenants, regardless of their renting experience or current issues with their landlords. They have organized a series of free online events throughout the week, purporting to provide much-needed guidance on renters’ rights.
A statement released by the group reads, “Whether you’re new to renting, having issues with your landlord, or just feel you need a refreshment on your rights, then these free online events are the perfect fit for you.”
Among the topics slated for discussion during this controversial event are issues such as pets in rental properties, coping with rent hikes, and the process of getting necessary repairs carried out.
In a move that has raised eyebrows, supporters are encouraged to sign up for as many webinars as they desire, all free of charge. Additionally, the group plans to distribute fact sheets related to renters’ rights.
Critics argue that this event, scheduled to run from October 16 to 23, is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt by Generation Rent to further its agenda, which they claim could potentially harm landlords and disrupt the housing market. Some sceptics question the impartiality of the information being disseminated during the week, suggesting that it may be skewed in favor of tenants.
